Code of Practice update

Upcoming amendments to the Code of Practice 9th edition (version 9.4)

The new update to the Code of Practice update will be published and come into effect later in October/early November depending on parliamentary time. This update primarily incorporates the 2022 amendments to the legislation on the storage of gametes and embryos and a number of other less substantial changes.

All upcoming changes are outlined in this Chair’s letter. This Code of Practice update incorporates the following changes:

Legislative changes:

Changes from the Health and Social Care Act 2022 which introduced amendments to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1990, changing the 10-year statutory storage limit for gametes and embryos.
Legislation that has been put in place to allow CE marked medical devices to be placed on the Great British market beyond 30 June 2023.

Other changes:

Reference to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) schemes
Cancelling a benefits in kind arrangement
Counselling qualifications and equivalence
Pre-employment health screening
Provision of a chaperone for intimate examinations
Medical and laboratory test guidance
Safe-sedation practice
E-consent platforms
Rescue ICSI
Corrections and minor clarifications
